I did not want to teach in a prison but a fellow National League of American Pen Women member taught art classes and would not stop pestering me about it until I said yes. The delusion of intimacy was something I didn't understand until long after I no longer taught there. It felt so real to me at the time. But it wasn't safe for them to let their guard down for a second. I didn't get that then.
